BMW: Too many new models?

The BMW 3 series and 5 series have become household names. The two iconic body shapes have had a long standing history of catering to the young professional or family man. A term called the SUV generation has emerged recently, with very niche requirements and with demand comes supply.

Let’s start with the 1 series which was first introduced in 2004 and has become their most popular offering. The entry level model has come in a variety of engine sizes in both petrol and diesel. As consumers grew to love the BMW, demand emerged for a sporty model grew. The introduction of the 1M in 2011 cemented the 1 series’ place among their line-up. This has happened numerous times over the past decade leading to every small niche being catered too with the likes of the 4 series and 6 series.
